Israel Szabo – A Portrait

Israel Szabo was born in Slovakia in the 1920s, and died in 2002.

The late Israel Szabo was one of the many donors who joined the Haifa Arts Foundation, and whose donation is forwarded to designated activities. Szabo saw the Haifa Arts Foundation as a channel through which it would be possible to grant scholarships or grants to encourage activity and creativity of youth workers in the field of informal education in the theoretical and practical areas. The Szabo Foundation's funds were put in the care of HAF.

The 2024 Szabo Foundation Grants for Non-Formal Education

On Sunday July 7, 2024, during a ceremony held at the Haifa Municipality Conference Hall, the Haifa Arts Foundation awarded the Szabo Foundation Grants for Non-Formal Education. The ceremony was moderated by the Foundation’s Acting Chairperson Mrs. Bracha Sela, in the presence of members of the Foundation Management and General Assembly, CEO Mrs. Aviva Shpigelshtein, representatives of the Szabo Foundation Committee, members of the Judging Panel, grant recipients and members of their families.

Scholarships of the late Israel Szabo

Over the years, the Haifa Cultural Foundation has awarded scholarships in the name of the late Israel Zsabo to outstanding activists in the informal education in Haifa, such as degree students specializing in informal education, guides from all the youth movements operating in the city, and assisted the informal education that took place in Hadar community center.

Aiming to promote informal education, the Szabo Foundation, via the Haifa Arts Foundation, is launching an invitation to tender to award monetary prizes to instructors whose work with youth is in the field of informal education.

Scholarships 2010

The Education, Society and Cultural Program focuses on the social and cultural aspects of education, with an emphasis on informal education. Studies are anchored in the fields of knowledge of sociology and anthropology of education, and illuminate the interrelationships between educational systems, especially the field of informal education in formal frameworks and in civil society, and between key social issues such as activism, justice, politics, sameness and difference.

Arts Enrichment Project in Schools

The Arts Enrichment project in Schools began in 1991 at the initiative of Doron Foundation and under its budgetary management, and under the professional management of the Department of Education of the University of Haifa. Doron Foundation for Education & Welfare, the Ministry of Education and Haifa Municipality, funded the project. The program was active for eight school years; the first three of which under the supervision of Haifa University, in two schools; and for five years from 1994, in six schools, during which time HAF managed the project.

Approximation of Disabled Populations to Art

Over the years, Haifa Arts Foundation has assisted associations, centers and clubs whose purpose was to assist populations with disabilities, children and adults alike. The Foundation aided the various populations according to their specific needs and character: assisting in the purchase of equipment and facilities that allowed the disabled population to express itself artistically; helping to budget art instructors; arranging transportation to activities; assisting in the purchase of representative costumes for artistic performances; and exposing the community to the disabled population's artistic activity, despite the disability.

Calligraphy Workshop - a Cooperation between Yavnieli and El Hiwar Schools

Haifa Arts Foundation supported the joint calligraphy workshop for the students of Yavnieli School and El Hiwar School. Fifteen students from each school took part in the workshop.

Social Club for the Blind in Beit Heine

Social Club for the Blind in Beit Heine

Founded in 1989, the Social Club for the Blind was the initiative of the Friends of the Beit Heine Community Center. The site offers a variety of community activities adapted especially for the blind, such as parties, lectures, classes and trips.

Ahva - Association of the Disabled in Haifa and the North

Ahva - Association of the Disabled in Haifa and the North

Ahva Association aims to improve the quality of life of physically disabled people, operating a social club, in which various activities take place in various circles, including rehabilitative learning processes. The club also prepares an infrastructure for economic activity for people with disabilities.

Ilan - Israeli Foundation for Handicapped Children

Ilan - Israeli Foundation for Handicapped Children

Various social activities take place at the club of Ilan, the Israeli Foundation for Handicapped Children. Among other things, the Center for Rehabilitation and Sport in Kiryat Haim holds a dance class for polio disabled children. The children dance seated in their wheelchairs.

Joint Projects for Special Education and Regular School Students

The Foundation diverts some of its resources into the field of education and creates joint projects for special education and regular school students. Students from both frameworks create interpersonal relationships. The activity of the students from the regular schools is part of a voluntary framework or the Personal Commitment Project.

Genigar School

Genigar, Ehud and the Open School have been maintaining continuous contact for the past 15 years in meetings of classes, integration and work on projects revolving around social issues, skills and communication.In this framework was produced a film about sustainability, which won the third prize in the Mediatheque national competition.

In addition, Genigar School conducts various activities, including in the field of robotics, and produces stages plays in cooperation with Hugim School, the Air Force Technical School, Bosmat High School and Reali Carmel Center School.

Henrietta Szold School

Henrietta Szold School from the special education services and Yavnieli School from the general education services, are two institutions that complement each other and have been cooperating for over nine years.

Ofakim School Integrates with Ironi Hei, Ahuzat Yeladim, Reali Carmel Center and the Open School

Ofakim School conducts activities of social integration with the following schools:

The Open School. Fifth and sixth graders participate in dance and arts activities about once a month. In addition, students from the Open School participate in special events of Ofakim School.

Aiding the Scout Movement in a disadvantaged neighborhood in Haifa

 Haifa Arts Foundation—through Avner Foundation and in collaboration with Haifa Municipality and the Scout Movement—helped in the operation of Re'im Group, active for years in the Nave David and Sha'ar HaAliya neighborhoods. Graduates of the Movement volunteer for a Service Year where they mentor children and youths in the neighborhood as part of HaOgen Scouts activities. In addition, the Foundation aids Haifa Scouts in financing a final guide course for ninth graders. The Foundation also assisted in providing scholarships to students active in informal education, or those that have served in combatant military units.

Sea Scouts Troop, Haifa - Israel Maritime League

A special contribution on the subject of the sea, within the framework of the Haifa Arts Foundation.
