Ahva - Association of the Disabled in Haifa and the North
Ahva Association aims to improve the quality of life of physically disabled people, operating a social club, in which various activities take place in various circles, including rehabilitative learning processes. The club also prepares an infrastructure for economic activity for people with disabilities.
Over the years, Haifa Arts Foundation has assisted in the acquisition of technical equipment, such as a video camera and related accessories for the activities of the cinematography class, two computers for the training center for the instruction of graphic programs for people with disabilities, and the purchase of a furnace for burning ceramics and glass. The foundation's assistance enabled the expansion of the activities of the association's arts workshop. The workshop deals with the manufacture of art objects from raw materials such as glass, metal, wood and plastic, and combines handicraft and use of a laser machine. The workshop provides a work place for the disabled and creates appropriate conditions for the expression of the unique skills of the disabled population. It is the only place in Haifa that allows the disabled to realize these skills.
Members of Ahva Club present their works at the Art Gallery, established out of the need to create awareness to aesthetic and artistic environment and activity. Among the exhibitions presented at the gallery was that of Julia Zisman, sponsored by Haifa Arts Foundation. The exhibitions at the gallery, which exposes the works of the disabled for the first time, encourage the artists and give them hope for their integration into the creative society in Israel, in their own way, despite their disabilities.
