The Haifa Arts Foundation

and the Writers’ Association in Haifa & the North

announce the following grants:

The Haifa Arts Foundation is extending the deadline for submitting manuscripts until July 31, 2023.

Grant for publication of a book:

Grant amounts:

First grant:      13,000 Shekels

Second grant:  10,000 Shekels

Third grant:       9,000 Shekels

Fourth grant:     8,000 Shekels

  • The amount of any grant awarded is at the discretion of the professional committee, which consists of representatives of the Foundation and of the Writers’ Association. After the submission of all proposals to the committee is completed, each proposal will be given due consideration.
  • The Foundation Management may add or split grants at its sole discretion.

Purpose of the grants:

To encourage writers who are Haifa residents to publish their work.

Grants will be awarded in the following categories: Prose, Poetry, and Children’s Literature.

The purpose of a grant is to assist in the cost of publication of a manuscript.

Candidates:

Israeli citizens, Haifa residents, who are established writers or authors and have previously published at least one book.

Encouragement Grant for a writer who has never been published before:

Grant amount: 6,000 Shekels

Purpose of the grant:

To encourage any first-time literature writer by providing assistance with the publication of their first book. Such a grant is intended to encourage the publication of an original literary work, one that reflects talent and conveys a novel message. The grant will be awarded in any of the following categories: Prose, Poetry or Children’s Literature.

Candidates:

Israeli citizens, Haifa residents, for whom this is the first publication of an original work.

  1. Grant Terms and Conditions for Paragraphs A and B: 
  1. A grant will be awarded only to a resident of Haifa.
  2. A grant will be awarded only for a previously unpublished work.
  3. The grant will be transferred:
    • After an agreement is signed with a publisher, and the date of publication is set;
    • The recipient agrees to acknowledge that the Haifa Arts Foundation has provided funding for the publication of the manuscript;
    • Four copies of the first edition of the book will be sent to the Foundation.

General Procedure: 

  1. Grants will be awarded to authors who write in Hebrew.
  2. The number of pages should not exceed 300 (numbered), 1.5 line spacing, font size 16, bound manuscript.
  3. When drawings are inserted in a children’s book, three or four drawings should be attached.
  4. Writers who have been awarded a grant by the Haifa Arts Foundation in the past four years may not submit their work.
  5. Candidates should be aware that the amount of the grant awarded does not cover the full cost of publication.
  6. The duration of the agreement with the publisher is limited to one year.
  7. The Haifa Arts Foundation may change or modify the terms of the Regulations, or any term thereof, at any time and at its sole discretion.

 How to submit a manuscript:

  1. Candidates must fill out an application form, which can be downloaded from the Haifa Arts Foundation site.
  2. The application form and three copies of the manuscript must be attached.
  3. The first page of the manuscript must include only the author’s ID and the name of the work.

A professional consulting committee appointed by the Haifa Arts Foundation will evaluate the applications and select the qualifying ones.
