Bat Shir Choir
Bat Shir Choir is a superb vocal ensemble specializing in a wide repertoire and high performance level. Bat Shir is a unique educational-artistic project that works to reveal, teach and develop local talents in the field of vocal art, by creating musical educational continuum: singers grow under one roof while developing professionally, personally and as a group.
Bat Shir was established in 2000 as a joint initiative of the Department of Culture and the Municipal Education Department. The choir is managed and conducted by Tali Weisman. The musical educational continuum is maintained by the existence of three groups:
- The reserve choir for ages 7-12
- The representative choir for ages 18-22
- The Bat Shir Ensemble for ages 18-30
In this fashion, the choir became a unique phenomenon in the Israeli landscape where singers grow under one roof while evolving professionally, personally and as a group.
In April 2012, Bat Shir Choir joined the Haifa Symphony Orchestra – Ethos, as the Orchestra's choir in residence, and ever since then it is active in all of the Orchestra's concert series (the opera series, the classic series, family concert series, Jazz series, etc.).
Bat Shir appears in major local events, choir conventions, competitions, and local and international festivals. At the same time, the choir has its independent concert series based on original works written especially for it, and takes part in master classes with Israel's foremost musicians and artists.
The choir has performed successfully with the best Israeli orchestras, and at festivals abroad.
Among other things, the choir participated in the Israeli Music Festival, in a joint concert with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, IBA; took part in a concert with the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra and its young singers; as well as in a performance of The Magic Flute with the Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv. Recently, the Choir even appeared with the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra and in concerts of the Music Academy in Tel Aviv.
The choir's achievements include winning second place, Girls category, at the International Johannes Brahms Competition in Germany, Youth Choirs category.
During its years of existence, Bat Shir became one of the pillars of Haifa's musical-educational activity.
Bat Shir constantly continues to develop professionally, takes part in fascinating projects, cultivates its singers as individuals and as a group, and works to discover new talents in Haifa.
In light of its extensive activity and its professional level, the choir was recognized and is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Sport.
Haifa Arts Foundation financed the representative costume for the choir's concerts.
In January 2017, the Chinese government invited Bat Shir to give two concerts in China – one in Shanghai, the other in Suzhou.
